You are busy so let’s not waste time.
Medical Miracles:
In the UK at a cancer research hospital, a 12 year-young patient, Alyssa, had tried dozens of therapies in an effort to cure her disease. Actually, up to different 100 therapies but none of them were effective on her particular kind of leukaemia.
There was nowhere else left to go in terms of treatments except for one option.
Doctors tried Gene Base Editing. 7 months later, Alyssa was cancer free.
We are, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, in the very early stages of Gene Base Editing and CRISPR therapy. The signs so far are very pleasing.
In 2021, 75 patients with Sickle Cell disease and Beta Thalassemia took part in a Vertex + CRISPR therapy collaboration trial. All patients have since been completely cured.
All of these are human trials but the first patient we are all keeping our eyes on who had Beta Thalassemia used to go to the hospital 17 times a year for blood transfusions. Since receiving the new treatment, he has has not needed a transfusion for over two years.
Functional cures are happening now.
Cryptocurrencies:
Don’t be distracted by the implosions of companies like FTX or Celsius.
FTX was:
Centralised
Lacked governance
Lacked transparency
Not liquid
Run by inexperienced, entitled ego-maniacs with contempt for their clients.
Don’t blame a rogue trader or one fraudster for an entire system. That is a red herring. A distraction.
Instead keep an eye on Bitcoin and Ethereum which were largely untouched by the debacle so should sustain for the long term.
AI:
There are mind blowing breakthroughs happening. So fast that it is proving difficult to keep up.
ChatGPT a derivative of GPT3 and OpenAI allows you to prompt it to write an essay on, for example, The History of Space Exploration and boom!, in less than a minute, you have an essay that is pretty well written. ChatGPT scours the internet from the beginning of Internet time and writes the essay based on that data.
There has been a lot of push-back - understandably - from various sectors of society like education who are terrified about the integrity of essays and other pieces of written work that count towards academic qualifications. But this genie is out of the lamp so we will have to find ways to adapt.
The Internet includes a lot of facts and figures but also a lot of misinformation, ‘creative’ writing and Science Fiction. So, The History of Space Exploration is going to have all kinds of mistakes – misinformation, creativity and down right lies in it and that is where we will have the opportunity to review, refine and craft the work.
Worryingly for the education sector, ChatGPT is scoring better than the national average on SAT’s and will only improve with time as AI learns from its own mistakes.
Another APP called Lensa AI has recently come to market LensaAI creates profile pictures for anyone based on searching your Facebook and other Social Media accounts. Within 5 days of launch, it gained 1 million users.
Dall. e, another OPENAI creation allows anyone to create any kind of image they can think of. Say I’d like to see a picture of myself in all kinds of sports gear. Photos are created very quickly. A conventional designer or artist will charge around $400 and take 3-4 hours to do this job. Dall.e did this in a few minutes and without charge.
AI is the equivalent of the assembly line for the industrial revolution but for the knowledge revolution. Try it out for yourself. Programmers/Coders say this is saving them 50% of their time.
Will AI render programmers redundant? Will AI, out-AI itself?
Until next week…be well and stay curious.
